Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth…
The truth is transformative. Obedience to the truth is as simple as believing it. An imperishable seed is planted in my soil. The garden is fresh and new and ready.
The plan is it will take root and grow. It will not wither or become impotent or fail to thrive because it remains forever. That is God’s part.
My part is to let truth grow.
Gardening is not really my thing – at least not the in the dirt kind – but I am called to tend my garden where the imperishable seed has been planted. I am to weed out malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy and slander. And these are just a few of the ugly intruders that need to go.
Fortunately I’ve been given both a handbook and a Helper because I know exactly nothing about gardening. I mean, who knew you were to water with milk? And frankly, some of those weeds have cute flowers and I might be inclined to just leave them be.
But like The Lawn Ranger, the Holy Spirit shows me on page 12 how the roots of that cutie are tying up the emerging blooms of holiness. Then I choose. Let Him pull that out or put Him off… The delay grieves Him but does nothing to discourage His return because He is committed to the garden and to my growing up.
…love one another earnestly from a pure heart
That is how He loves me – earnestly, fervently – like there is no tomorrow. And that’s the crop we are growing together…Love.
Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another,
God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
