“Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.”
Now here is a statement we can all use. After yesterday’s shooting in California on top of the general chaos and out of control insanity all over the world, let’s face it, fear is just the logical response. In fact, some would say to “not be afraid” is the insane part. So, it’s pretty risky to try to see hope much less JOY.
I really have to take a step back to put life in perspective. 2,000 + years ago a Savior was born. It is GOOD NEWS and GREAT JOY for everyone. He is our rescue from a world racked with sin and despair and all manner of evil. He is not just MY rescuer; He is every person’s rescuer. He has come to save us from ourselves.
Honestly I have no idea how this could really work but something within me hears the words spoken by angels and HOPE is born fresh in my heart. Some may say such hope is just withdrawing from reality but I think it is really a returning to reality.
Paul says this is “why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.” (1 Timothy 4:10)
So my mantra in the face of fear is to echo the shepherds: “Good news! The Savior has come and hold on, because he is coming again.”
